Capitol Hill Alano Club
CHAC is still here and we are actively looking for a new home with the assistance of a commercial real estate broker. Our goal is a building/space that answers to a budget while lending itself to fellowship. Our mission has not changed:
CHAC's mission is to Support all 12-step recovery groups by providing a safe, permanent and welcoming meeting environment.
However, finding a suitable home that will satisfy your needs is proving to be a challenge. If you know of spaces for lease or wish to engage with the board to find a new home, please contact us.
After thoughtful deliberation, the Capitol Hill Alano Club Board of Directors has decided to discontinue leasing 1900 E Madison effective immediately. It was the sense of the board that it was time to be proactive and find an affordable, comfortable and more centrally located home for CHAC. We would like to thank our landlord, Landmark, for it's graciousness and cooperation with our decision.
We are aggressively searching for our new home. We will update the website regularly with news from our search. While we don’t have a move-in date, we are doing are best to make it soon.
Stayed tuned for the New CHAC!
Capitol Hill Alano Club Board of Directors
Your Board of Directors has been working hard since the fire on the evening of March 22, 2011. We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes as we work with the land lord of the building at 1900 E Madison as well as organized this year's Bat N Rouge. If you are a member of CHAC, you have voting rights for Club business at each year’s General Membership Meeting.
What is it?
The bylaws of CHAC state: The general membership is responsible for providing direction to the Board of Directors in all aspects of management, operation and direction of C.H.A.C. This means that we need you and your input as we move forward from the fire and towards reopening the Club.
When/Where is it?
CHAC’s 2011 General Membership meeting will occur at 6pm Wednesday, 7/20/2011 at Seattle University’s Teilhard de Chardin Hall (CHDN). You can also download a printable PDF map.
What will we talk about?
The General Membership meeting serves as a way for the membership to participate in the business of the Club and also as a regular old Board meeting. Please see the proposed motion below for one item that will be discussed.
Who gets to vote?
All current members of CHAC are able to vote on matters pertaining to Club business at the General Membership meeting. If you are not sure if you are a current member, please contact us and we will look up your information.
Proposed Addendum to the Capitol Hill Alano Club Bylaws
It has been proposed that we delete all qualifying location language related to the verb "posted" when referencing the posting of materials.
This proposal arose out of out increasing online presence since the fire as well as a debate within the Board of Directors as to how much information we should post online.
On behalf of the CHAC Board of Directors, we hope to see you on 7/20!
Yours in service,

Member-at-Large (Web/IT)
In the spirit of gratitude and on behalf of the Board of the Capitol Hill Alano Club and the Bat N Rouge XIII team, many thanks to everyone for supporting Bat N Rouge XIII; for playing on those two incredible teams; for attending the event and making it so much fun; and finally for all those men and women who volunteered their time to help put this event on. CHAC is eternally grateful for your support.

Capitol Hill Alano Club Board of Directors
Interim President
The Capitol Hill Alano Club (CHAC) is holding its 13th annual Bat N Rouge softball game on Saturday, June 18, 2011 on the Bobby Morris ball fields at Cal Anderson Park on Capitol Hill. All are welcome to attend the event, the last ball game at the park for the 2011 season.
The Bobby Morris ball fields are to be closed by Seattle Parks & Recreation for major work to replace the lights to begin on June 20th.
As one of Seattle Pride's kick-off events, Bat N Rouge this year features Seattle's own Gaysha Starr, who will host the event as mistress of ceremonies. Traditionally, Bat N Rouge draws thousands of spectators, fans and neighbors to watch this unique kind of softball and take part in a community event, designed for all ages. Besides softball, there will be music, entertainment, food, prizes and more.
As in years prior, Bat N Rouge XIII pits the fashion sense of Seattle's drag queens against the the athletic prowess of the dykes to see who can score the most runs and win the coveted trophy. Traditional softball innings are echoed by “fun” innings, where spectators can purchase stunts or bribes to impact the game in favor of their team.
Bat N Rouge is an annual fundraiser to benefit the Capitol Hill Alano Club, a 501(C) 3 non-profit organization, which supports 12-Step recovery groups, the LGBTQ community in particular, by providing a safe, permanent and welcoming meeting space.
However, a break-in and fire on March 22, 2011 seriously damaged the Club's building at 19th and East Madison, making this year's Bat N Rouge fundraiser especially critical in getting that meeting space back in operation. Most of the Club's 60 12-Step recovery groups have found temporary space elsewhere in the city. The fire-damaged building is currently undergoing reconstruction and the Club hopes to be back in operation there in late June or early July.
Since its founding in 1982, the Capitol Hill Alano Club has provided an important service to the community by offering a safe space for LBGTQ and others, often in crisis, as they deal with and recover from many kinds of addiction.
