Who We Are
CHAC is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to providing a safe and permanent meeting place for members of the Seattle LGBT community in recovery. Established in 1982, we have been a part of the Capitol Hill and Seattle community through our annual fundraisers (Bat-n-Rouge: Drag Queens vs. The Dykes, Kringle's Korner Christmas Tree Lot). Keep your eyes peeled for more community involvement as we strive to become more involved in YOUR community!
A Little History
In 1974, the Puget Sound areas first all gay Alcoholics Anonymous group met once a week in the basement of The Capitol Hill United Methodist Church. In the years since that small beginning, the Gay and Lesbian Community in Recovery had grown significantly and in response, The Capitol Hill Alano Club was realized. The Club has moved five times throughout the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle. Currently we are located at 1900 East Madison.
Officially founded in 1982 The Capitol Hill Alano Club is a registered non-profit, that provides meeting space for a variety of recovery and 12 Step programs. Though founded and supported by the LGBT Community, CHAC has been welcoming all people seeking recovery and currently hosts nearly 60 meetings a week including: Al-Anon, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Sex Addicts Anonymous and other 12 step based addiction recovery groups as well as the Seattle Spanish Speaking Chapter of AA “La Esperanza”.
The Capitol Hill Alano club is funded entirely through donations, fund raisers and individual memberships. The organization is managed by volunteer contributions of time, service and talents.
